Amazing in our own minds...

Father, your creation declares your greatness and lovingkindness, encouraging statements of pure truth in our daily walk... At first glance it seems counterintuitive, but we should all know that it's not about what we've done, but rather, more about what we're going to do that matters the most. Sure, some find great satisfaction in bragging about their prior achievements, and although successes are not all bad, they can easily become a crutch, a way to rest on our laurels, leading us to a lack of motivation in seeking further gains. In His teachings, Jesus said, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God." (Luke 9:62) But what if our plowing was near flawless; what if we had spent our entire lifetime perfecting our craft such that we rarely achieved anything but near perfect results? In our own minds we would be amazing in and of ourselves! But therein lies the problem with mankind; we accept mediocrity by drifting into it from past successes, resting on our laurels, and when doing so, we have an uncanny way of confusing lack of continual effort with our past perceived perfections. Paul knew this tendency when he wrote, "I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me... Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race..." (Philippians 3:12-14) "Ain't never satisfied" MUST be our calling card in Christ, for when pursuing perfection we are simply walking in the footsteps of Jesus… Thank you, Jesus, for showing us that you are the way, the truth, and the life; THE answer for those committed to seeking the truth in all things!
