This world turned upside down...

Father, your creation declares your greatness and lovingkindness, encouraging statements of pure truth in our daily walk... I love how Jesus turned the tables on the thinking of mankind, so much so that our world has been turned upside down when it comes to leading with the spiritual ways of Christ as compared to the worldly ways of the worldly! On the surface, when we sacrifice on behalf of another, our thinking is that we are really doing something special, something of the highest degree and calling. It is true that sacrifice is special since it speaks of thinking less of self and more of others. But here come those spiritual words of wisdom and truth as found only in your scriptures; Jesus said, "Go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.' For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners." (Matthew 9:13) Yes, sacrifice is important, but Jesus taught us that mercy is even greater, and that drawing attention to our magnanimously sacrificial efforts means NOTHING if we're not merciful to those who benefit from our sacrifice. Lord, you are a God of mercy, and as such, you don't expect me/us to be perfect, but that as your children, we are to experience your mercy in real time, forgiving us so we can draw near to you. May we go and do likewise to those not deserving mercy but yet receiving it nonetheless… Thank you, Jesus, for showing us that you are the way, the truth, and the life; THE answer for those committed to seeking the truth in all things!
