Father, your creation declares your greatness and lovingkindness, encouraging statements of pure truth in our daily walk... It's a fact, not all words we speak are created equal, for some words lift others up, while other words do nothing but tear others down. Without question, more sins are committed with the tongue than any other part of our bodies; not just gossip but also lying, slander, insults, boasting, flattery, hypocrisy; it boils down to the fact that we're seemingly more than willing to tear others down. James wrote, "For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell." (James 3:2-6) Strong warnings for sure, warnings we need to heed lest we stumble into the trap from which our tongues will certainly lure us into if we are not prepared to fight this evil every moment of every day… Thank you, Jesus, for showing us that you are the way, the truth, and the life; THE answer for those committed to seeking the truth in all things!
