Quick to hear, slow to speak...

Father, your creation declares your greatness and lovingkindness, encouraging statements of pure truth in our daily walk... In our minds we know we're right, and as such, deserving the last word to prove our point. In these moments of selfishly motivated motives, it’s easy to become quick to speak and slow to listen. The influential speaker Stephen Covey often stated, "Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply." Being perceived as a know-it-all is always the worst possible position in a relationship; in fact, people will do whatever it takes to find someone else who will actually listen to their ideas, opinions, and passions. James wrote, "Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls." (‭‭James‬ ‭1‬:‭19‬-‭21‬) How can we receive what becomes the implanted word UNTIL we're willing to hear those words of truth and life… Thank you, Jesus, for showing us that you are the way, the truth, and the life; THE answer for those committed to seeking the truth in all things!
