Don't be a hypocrite...

Father, your creation declares your greatness and lovingkindness, encouraging statements of pure truth in our daily walk... To say that John Mellencamp songs are meaningful to me in my life is an understatement to say the least. In his song "Between a Laugh and a Tear" he wrote, "Hypocrite used to be such a big word to you, don't seem to mean anything to you now." To say the world is full of hypocrites is to state the obvious, for everyone in their right mind can see that this world is messed up! Honestly, Lord, you know, I don't mind people speaking their mind, to have the freedom to say what's on their mind is really a beautiful thing, but at the end of the day if we're hypocritical in our positions, then I say we need to listen to ourselves and then to shut up while we still have a chance to be taken seriously by those who see us saying one thing, but doing just the opposite. Jesus said, "Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye." (Matthew 7:3-5) We are called to be a people with meaning and purpose, setting our eyes on heavenly things while fighting our hypocritical tendencies so we can be men and women of our word, and in doing so, clothing ourselves with Christ Jesus and His love… Thank you, Jesus, for showing us that you are the way, the truth, and the life; THE answer for those committed to seeking the truth in all things!
